The trick is to know. Most key fob batteries will last for several years. I know that there are cheaper batteries but this is the battery used by bmw and i like using oem products.
The battery replacement is very easy and you need a small flat head screwdriver.
I replaced my battery this way, piece of cake. About the 3rd time you do this, it takes maybe 30 seconds total. Some may have a different smart key / key fob but this one has fcc id kr55wk49147. The battery does not charge when the fob is in the dash.
